Wedding Videography | Rowallan Castle | Ayrshire| Kirsty & Greg

Rowallan-CastleMy only visit to Rowallan Castle had been for lunch but I remember thinking how great it would be to do a wedding there. The extensive grounds and historic buildings make for a dramatic backdrop and I knew it wouldn’t disappoint.

It’s another exclusive use venue and there’s plenty of rooms for guests to move between. Guests arrive and are invited to walk up the wide, stone staircase leading to the ceremony room which later becomes a bar area. The reception takes place in the bright and airy ballroom. I loved Kirsty & Greg’s attention to detail. Their theme ran through everything and they had obviously put a lot of thought into every aspect of their day. From the cigars and whisky which sat ready for Greg, Best Man and Ushers in the library to the table settings and trivia which guests commented on throughout the day.

Rowallan-Castle

The day very much had everything. Watch out for the moment a gust of wind came and Kirsty’s veil covered her bridesmaid and who can forget the bouquet throw, caught by a little girl who is now possibly dreaming of her own wedding in a castle one day.

Wedding Photography | House for an Art Lover | Helen & Paul

Wedding-Photography-HouseForAnArtLover-Glasgow (28)

Helen & Paul both live in Australia and when I received their enquiry I initially thought, no hoped, I would be embarking on a 10,000 mile journey to take their photos there. But that wasn’t to be as they had planned to get hitched in Glasgow where Helen is from originally.

They chose House for An Art Lover which is a particular favourite of mine. It is beautiful both inside and out and having exclusive use to celebrate your day makes it all the more special.

The couple had loved ones travel from different parts of the world which meant House for An Art Lover was an ideal choice for guests unfamiliar with the venue to enjoy some Scottish architecture and history.

Although I offer set packages, sometimes couples have a different plan in mind. Helen had asked me to photograph and film their day. They wanted photography coverage up until the speeches and for only their ceremony and speeches to be filmed. This is not something I would normally do however I was able to do both roles on the day as the filming requirements were manageable.

The couple had arranged video messages from family in Australia which were enjoyed by their guests before dinner. I was able to edit these in to their final DVD so they had everything together in the one place.

Wedding-Photography-HouseForAnArtLover-Glasgow (31)Wedding-Photography-HouseForAnArtLover-Glasgow (32)

The other request was for me to have a highlights film ready for 2-3 weeks later that would be shown at their wedding celebration/reception in Australia. I put together a photo montage with video clips from their ceremony and speeches. The feedback was great! Friends and family who couldn’t make the wedding in Glasgow loved the chance to watch it with everyone.

It works having wedding photography & wedding film packages as couples can see up front what is included and for what price. But if it’s something bespoke you’re after then please just ask. To date I’ve had highlights films shown at wedding receptions in Australia and the USA. I wonder where next…

Thank you Helen & Paul for trusting me to be so involved in your day. All the very best for your future together x

Wedding Photography | Glasgow University | The Vu, Bathgate | Kathleen & John

Wedding-Photography-TheVu-University-of-Glasgow (15)

When I saw the booking form mention the groom’s name was John Taylor, it took me back to the days of my poster adorned walls of Duran Duran. I was never a Simon Le Bon fan. I shuttled between John and Roger Taylor. So how could I say no 🙂

The day began with Bridal Preparations at a busy city centre flat on the Clyde. Not everyone goes for bridal preparation photos (I didn’t). It’s really down to you. It adds to the anticipation of the day and of course through time, memories fade so it’s lovely to have a record of the finer details: your jewellery, shoes, perfume etc…

Kathleen and John married in the Glasgow University Memorial Chapel. I thought I would put out this blog as Glasgow University celebrated its 565th birthday only last week! It’s a beautiful setting for your ceremony and hugely popular so you need to book well in advance. Some may find it expensive too but it all depends on what you are looking for. They can cater for more than one wedding in a day but you must ensure not to run late. The stained glass window, the altar and of course that fabulous walk down the aisle with friends and family seated either side is truly memorable.

After the ceremony, we had use of the university grounds which make for great photos. We headed for the grass area outside, where you get a stunning view of the Art Gallery in the distance. And then it was the cloisters – again simply beautiful. We focused on shots of the bridal party and in particular Kathleen & John. You could spend lots of time here but we were quite limited as the next stop for the reception was the Vu at Bathgate.

The commute took around 45mins and it was straight to the jetty for more photographs of the couple. Fortunately ours was the only wedding on at the Vu and the weather was warm and sunny. These factors do help!

When planning your day, it’s important to factor in plenty of time for travel (if moving between venues) and of course photographs. I recommend to couples to go for an earlier ceremony time and not to draw up a list of more than 8-10 photos. Your day goes so quickly and you want to spend time with your guests and enjoy the day too.

2015 saw the return of throwing the bridal bouquet. I love the reaction here of the young lady who triumphed over the competition!

Wedding Photography | The Vu, Bathgate | Natalie & Paul

Wedding-Photography-TheVu-Glasgow (5)

Whilst we may not have had the best of summers in 2015, Natalie & Paul were blessed with a lovely, sunny day in July at the Vu in Bathgate.

This is my first blog of 2016 and in fact for a long time. So you know what one of my 2016 resolutions is!

Everything took place at the venue. We were wonderfully entertained by the celebrant during the ceremony which at times was very emotional. (I often have to squeeze my thumb or bite my lip to stop my tears!). With the weather being kind, we were able to get outside and after the meal we got some more great photos as the light was good and temperature still warm.

Natalie & Paul choose my photography & videography package. To find out more you can go here Wedding Photography & Videography.

Thank you both for trusting me to get involved in your special day. All the best to you and Reuben x

Pollok House Wedding| Wedding Photography Glasgow | Mr & Mrs George

A Pollok House Wedding

A Selection of Wedding Photography Images from Pollok House in Glasgow.

When I met Adrienne, our lovely Bride, she explained she had visited Pollok House as a child on many occasions and loved the idea of having her wedding there. And when you visit you can understand why. It’s an exquisite country house outside of Glasgow city centre, set in Pollok Country Park.

Inside, it is filled with period furniture and boasts some of the UK’s finest pieces of Spanish art. Outside, the House is noble and grand! Its setting is beautiful and when you stand and look at the impressive building, you can almost sense the arrival of Mr Darcy… We wish girls!

Pollok House-Wedding-PhotosPollok House-Wedding-PhotosPollok House-Wedding-Photos

When we took a walk around Adrienne had a good idea of where she would like to have her photos taken. The grand staircase and the Music Room were among her requests. We gained a feel for the day which would be made all the more special as Adrienne’s mum would be conducting the ceremony and her brother would be playing a musical piece at the register signing.

We visited too the location for her evening reception which in days gone by would have been the servant quarters and the house kitchen.

Pollok House-Wedding-Photos

Pollok House certainly offers a different kind of venue for your wedding day. It was a lovely setting and suited Adrienne & Gary’s characters beautifully. Here are some images from their day and at the end you can enjoy a small montage of more images.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs George and thank you for having me as your wedding photographer!
